Initial Stages for fatherhood

Gaining maturity, growing older, feeling responsible, coming to office with blood shoot eye(You are totally mistaken..just because of sleepless nights )learning to derive joy by just watching our children grow up is a like a sin curve. Sometime you feel that you are on top of the world, knowing how to manage (initiate, planning, execute, monitor and control, closing) well. At other times, you are like a drooping plant craving for water (external energy/motivation).

Nathan is One Year Young - With a Bang!

Nathan turned 1 on 4th of April 2013. As we praise God for the miracles He had done in each one of life, I want to mention about the fall he had on 3rd evening. We had a prayer at our house and we are just cleaning up the place before we go to bed. We put Nathan on the stroller (pram) and fastened the belt.

Our Nathan was a bit cranky that day and tried his best to wriggle through the small space he had between the belt and almost stood up. As he stands, the centre of gravity of the stroller tilted and down came Nathan and the stroller.

We, the panic stricken parents jumped into action. His brother, Johan (you are familiar with him) started crying just by the impact of the fall. Nathan had injuries in his mouth. It hurt him quite badly. He was crying for almost 30 minutes no stops, till all his energy drained off.

We praise God that nothing else had happened to him. When our eyes are not on our near and dear ones, our Lord's is.

Justification for getting late

Things are much for Johan in Nursery. Now he need to get up early morning by 7:30am, get ready and off to school with his dad at 8:35am. You got to be at school by 8:45am. If you are late for whatsoever reason it may be, as parents, you got to justify yourself.

I've got the opportunity to justify myself within the initial few days itself-not something to boast about. That was the first day, when I reached school by 8:53am precisely. When my chance came to justify myself in the late register, I saw that I am the 8th parent to budge. I need to specify a reason why we got late. I scanned through the register for the reason-learning from other, you know. The only answer for all the parents who got late was just because of traffic on the Coimbatore roads. What an easy inference for one to get late! How easy is for us to throw the blame on others-a natural human tendency!

Johan off to playschool

Finally... a time to sit back and write on the same topic. As an orientation, he did go for a summer camp in Euro Kids, Ganapathy, Coimbatore, India - the first experience for him with school. Right from the time he turned 2, he used to tell all to whom he talks - "Jonu schoolil pokuvaa". Though he didn't let us know what he has done each day, as parent we got an update on the final day, when he brought back quite a lot of art works - crayons painting, fine sand painting etc. Though, its obvious that he did this with some external help (thanks to the teachers who helped him), I noticed a few changes in him

A Johan who used to be quite annoyed sitting at home, was willing to go to school.
A Johan who used to cry each day while I leave him at school on my way to office, eventually tried to contain himself. Obviously, he was sad to leave his parents back at the school entrance.

There was also a few changes in Leena.
A mother who haven't left his son over the past 2.5 years, felt very uncomfortable to leave him for just 2 hours daily.

Later, Johan started going to school on the school bus and Leena used to go and bring him back in a cab.

Summer camp concludes.. And the preschool start on 9th June'2010.

Mind You - He is watching you!

Home is the place for first learning. This is even true for Johan. He watches each and every move of ours - may it walking, raising of hand as a sign of refreshing, speaking, singing, praying, shouting, scholding. If i raise my voice, he say "Minndda", if it coughs, he asks me to spit, if i cough while drinking water, he asks me to hit on top of my head or he shouts "Palli" - an healthy act to distract you. He learns a lot through his eyes. He learns a lot through his sound. He make different types of sounds and learns from its echos too. He notices the obvious, which elders tend to miss.

The visions passing through the television has a great impact on him - especially the advertisements. He knows many of the commercials by its music. He know whatz the next caption which is going to be said in many of the media ads. This made me realize the power of ads on children and why there is a huge effort behind commercials.

He watches every move of others. In the church, he observes the choir processions and imitates it at home. At home, Johan becomes the bearer and his parent follows up.

Schooling - Ripe?

Johan is growing in wisdom and stature finding favor in God and man.We are trying to get him enrolled in any preschool in Coimbatore. The search is on. When I sat back and tried to ponder on the reasons for sending him to school at an age of 2.5 years or even earlier, I got a few and I list it in the order of compulsion.
  • Peer Pressure
  • Fear of not getting admission later
  • He should learn

I am sure, Johan would take up the first point of concern for himself over a period of time. In other word, Is it the parents who impart this unnecessary virtue to their kids?
